This summer treat tastes like biting into a piece of apple pie at a backyard party, but instead it’s a chilled, more healthy version without all the sugar and butter. It’s perfect for a hot summer day!
Between the Dulce de Leche protein, walnuts and the apple in this smoothie, you’ll be feeling energized and fueled for the rest of your day. Nuts are a great smoothie addition because of the sustained energy they provide.
We used our Dulce de Leche flavored protein in this smoothie, but it would also taste delicious with Natural Vanilla Cream or Cinnamon Bun Flavor.
The frozen banana and almond milk make this smoothie super creamy, just make sure to find unsweetened almond milk if you’re calculating your macros and monitoring your sugar intake. Our protein is naturally sweetened with only 1g of added sugar, making this smoothie sweet enough without having to use sweetened milk, maple syrup or honey to add sweetness. Unsweetened plain or vanilla almond milk works just fine for this recipe.
If you’re feeling like having this for dessert, we recommend using dairy-free coconut whipped cream as an alternative to regular whipped cream because it is less likely to cause inflammation. It’s a fun way to make it feel like you’re indulging in a sweet treat, when you’re actually nourishing yourself with unprocessed sugars and fats!
Ingredients
- ½ frozen banana
- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk (plain or vanilla)
- 1 scoop TRU Dulce de Leche Protein
- ½ Honey Crisp, Pink Lady or Red Delicious apple
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 small handful of walnuts (⅛ cup)
- Top with coconut non-dairy whipped cream
Directions
- Blend all ingredients together in a blender on high.
- Add ice cubes to make it thicker if desired.
- Top with whipped cream and another pinch of cinnamon.
- Enjoy!
