Should I Skip Breakfast?

There are so many theories out there about whether or not eating breakfast is beneficial or detrimental to dieting and exercise. Most of us grew up hearing that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but now there are influencers suggesting that fasting until the afternoon is the surefire way to shed weight and stay energized.

While many theories exist, there is not a “one size fits all” solution because everyone’s body is uniquely different. To put it simply, it does not matter whether you eat breakfast or not. What matters is the total amount that you’re consuming throughout the day and what works best for your individual schedule.

If your jam is to wake up early and start with a big breakfast that keeps you satiated throughout the first part of your day, then keep on keepin’ on! If you tend to stay up later and eat a late dinner, then skipping breakfast might make more sense for you. The optimal choice is what works best for you!

What matters is that you’re staying true to your caloric intake and getting the proper amount of carbs, fats, proteins and vitamins for your lifestyle, fitness goals and body type. The kinds of food you’re eating are more important than the time you’re eating. Ask yourself if you’re consuming whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, unprocessed foods and high quality meats.

If you’re working on losing weight and building muscle, your intake should reflect those changes, and the time of day you’re eating does not necessarily affect your results.

To maintain your protein intake while on your fitness journey, protein shakes or smoothies are a great way to satiate hunger for a breakfast or snack option. Be mindful of the amount of sugar you’re adding with fruit. Try using chilled water instead of milk and make the smoothie creamy by adding a tablespoon of peanut butter or almond butter. As always, TRU Protein is a great way to establish a healthy protein intake throughout your day with 20 grams of protein per scoop.
